As a Family and Consumer Science teacher, Leann teaches students how to do something she loves to do — cook and bake! LeAnn's mother was also an excellent cook. Her family led a mostly sedentary life and had the philosophy that you should eat everything on your plate.
"I've been heavy my entire life," LeAnn says."I have never known what it was like to be slim. My life was shaped by my shape. I couldn't go to certain places or do certain things because of my weight."
While she tried very hard to keep her children from struggling with their weight the way she had, LeAnn found that with working full–time and raising three children, she often made dinner in a hurry, resorting to one–pot or casserole type dishes that were high in refined carbs. With the additional emotional stress of their father leaving, LeAnn and the children turned to food for comfort, and the entire family has had to deal with weight issues.
LeAnn's appearance on The Biggest Loser Season 11 was a result of her desire to help her son, Vance, achieve his weight–loss goals. Vance had auditioned for Season 10, but didn't make it. He was asked to appear on Season 11, but had to have a partner. "My son asked me to do it. I did it for him," she says. "But now I am doing it for me and I am thrilled!"
Unfortunately, LeAnn and Vance never spent any time on the ranch. Instead, they have made this weight–loss journey on their own at home. LeAnn admits the opportunity to use the resources at the ranch would have been great, but she is doing well on her own.
"We are proof that you can do it at home. The nice thing is that The Biggest Loser Meal Plan meals help me make it work in my life.

"I don't have to think. I can race home from the gym and my meals are already ready for me. It has been very helpful. Stuffed Cheesy Chicken — that's an excellent one. I like the spice of the Kung Pao Chicken, the flavor combination. The Turkey Chili, that's pretty darn good! And my family is starting to follow my changes. My girls are starting to get on board.
"I don't want them to live the life I lived. Now we are trying to figure out comfort food in a different way."
While a change in the way she eats has been critical to LeAnn's success, she also has a solid exercise routine. She goes to the gym almost every day to work out with a trainer. She also tries to find fun activities to keep her moving and often enjoys going for walks with a friend. She is excited about new things she can do and looks forward to going on a bike ride and even river rafting!
When asked how she feels now, LeAnn answers, "Awesome! Just to be able to walk up stairs and not be winded. I can sit in seats and there's room left. I don't panic that I am going to break something I sit in. I can jog; I can hike.
I am doing all these things that I didn't know I could do! I went shopping Friday night. That's the most thrilling: all the clothes I can fit in now. It was the most thrilling experience! I had a blast. I used to think it was the most miserable thing to do, but this time it was fun!"
LeAnn has made amazing progress losing 65 pounds on her own at home! * "The journey has been the hardest thing I have ever done. I have done things I didn't know I could do but it has been so very rewarding. I used to say, 'I have no will power. I can't do it.' But I have learned I do have will power, and I can do this! If I make a choice that is not so hot, I don't have to toss the whole day away. I can start over again tomorrow. That's been great! I am looking forward to reclaiming my life — one that I have never known — and I am really excited about that!"
