"You can do it at home. You just have to set your mindset to what's more important -- and what's most important is your health."
That's the attitude Rick took on after being sent home from The Biggest Loser Ranch in Season 10. Like many others, he found it tough going from the strict, structured environment of the Ranch back into regular life and facing all of the usual real world worries. At the Ranch, there was no bad food or fast food, but back at home, all of the old temptations remained.
So his first order of business was to
establish a routine and some structure by eating the Biggest Loser Meal Plan. With the plan, nutritious food is waiting for him after he works out in the morning. He simply packs it in his cooler for lunch at work and dinner is waiting and ready when he gets home.'
"It's so convenient, nutritious and really great," Rick says. "I can customize my menu now that I've tried the meals, and choose all my favorites."
And it's really worked for him! These days, Rick's life at home is filled with good nutrition and physical activity -- and
he's lost 105 pounds in only nineteen weeks with the Biggest Loser Meal Plan since he's been home from the Ranch!
As a self-proclaimed "foodaholic" before his time with The Biggest Loser, Rick says he spent his typical days overeating -- too much fast food and snacking at the office, snacking at home and almost completely excluding fruits and vegetables from his life. He suffered from high blood pressure, abnormal blood sugar levels and high cholesterol. Even with medication, his blood pressure remained high.
He had tried to lose the weight before on his own. In 2001, Rick underwent gastric bypass surgery and lost approximately 100 pounds, but he didn't drop past 320 and eventually gained his way back to 350.
Overtime he began to realize
the change needed had to be in his lifestyle and his entire approach to eating. He knew he didn't want his weight to be someone else's problem. Stroke, heart attack, death all of it would become not just his problem, but that of his family's, so Rick decided to make the change.
Within the controlled environment of The Biggest Loser Ranch, Rick started learning to prepare healthy meals and had a very structured routine of eating and working out. Before leaving, he lost an amazing 60 pounds and was well on his way to getting his health back.
Once he returned home, he continued his weight-loss success with The Biggest Loser Meal Plan and lost the additional 105 pounds.
His weight loss total so far is an amazing 165 lbs!His family is thrilled with tremendous excitement over Rick's regained health. "You don't appreciate [your health] until you lose it," he says. "As I've lost the weight, I'm beginning to appreciate it more and more again."
