"Before The Biggest Loser, all I was doing was working and hanging out. That really was my life. I wasn't sure where I was headed in life yet," says 19–year–old Vance. Employed as a nursing assistant at a nursing home, he would start work at 2 p.m. each day and not eat anything until he left work at around 11:30 p.m. As a result, when he got off work, very hungry and too tired to make anything to eat, he would usually just binge on fast food before heading home.
Vance admits that it wasn't his idea to audition for The Biggest Loser and he hadn't even watched the show. In fact, it was his neighbor who wanted to audition, but she didn't want to go by herself. Vance accompanied her reluctantly and, as fate would have it, he was selected for Season 11. His neighbor did not make it onto the show, so Vance asked his mother, LeAnn, to be his partner.
They made it to the ranch, only to be told that there was only space for 11 teams at The Biggest Loser Ranch, and unfortunately, Vance and LeAnn were number 12. Ali Sweeney told them the show experts wanted to prove that you don't have to be on the Ranch to have a significant amount of weight loss, and Vance and LeAnn were the team to prove it!
After several weeks at home, Vance was invited back to the Ranch to see how he had been doing with his weight loss, and possibly earn a spot at the Ranch. While Vance and his mother did not lose enough weight to capture that elusive spot, he did return home with a renewed sense of determination –– determination to be honest with himself.
"We can prove that
you don't have to be on the Ranch to have significant weight loss. I lost 30 pounds on my own!" Vance says.
"The food from The Biggest Loser Meal Plan has been an amazing tool in my tool belt that I use a lot. A lot of them taste pretty good and they are portioned out, so I don't have to worry about whether I am going over my calories. I can see everything listed on the label and I know exactly what nutrition I am getting."
Vance has lost 60lbs so far with The Biggest Loser Meal Plan and his intense workouts!* As Vance's weight and lifestyle change, there are other big changes happening in his life as well. He has confidence he never had before and is thrilled to have his first girlfriend, Kaylee, another contestant from Season 11.
"I can definitely say that inside I am truly happy," he says. "It's been absolutely amazing that I am comfortable enough with myself that I am able to open myself up to someone else."
Vance told us, "I think the best advice I can give to anyone who wants to get started on their own weight-loss journey is: Put the excuses away. You can come up with any excuse in the book to start your diet tomorrow, but until you become accountable and responsible to yourself, you will not succeed.
You need to be honest with yourself and then you will start seeing great results."
That's great advice! And Vance is proving it every day!
